How to arrive
Alcalá
de Henares is around 30 km away from Madrid. Its university and
historic precinct are among the UNESCO's World Heritage Sites. Please

tourism
office web page for
touristic information or the

for
more general info.
- Arriving by plane: although
Madrid airport (MAD) is between Madrid and Alcalá, there is no direct
public transportation to Alcalá. Unless taking a taxi, the trip
will pass through Madrid.
- A taxi
trip would take about 30 minutes and cost
around 45 euros (please consider both amounts as strongly dependent on
traffic jams).
- Bus
824 would take about 50 minutes and runs every 40 minutes. In
Alcalá the closest stop is “Alcala, Via Complutense 24”.
(Be aware that the bus leaves from airport terminal 2 and stops at
terminal 1 of the airport. Terminal 3 is in walking distance from
either, but if you arrive to terminal 4 you have to take an airport bus
or the metro to go from terminal 4 to terminals 1,2,3.)
- Arriving by train: The lines
C2 and C7 of the Cercanías
(short-distance) trains connect Madrid and
Alcalá. Both lines pass through the main train stations in Madrid:
- "Atocha" (40 minutes trip).
- "Chamartín" (at most 55 minutes trip, there are some CIVIS
express trains).
- Arriving by bus: The lines 223
(day) and N202 (night) of the suburban
(green)
buses, connect Madrid and Alcalá in around 40
minutes. Departure station in Madrid is "Avenida de América".
- Arriving by car: Alcalá is
next to the A-2 highway, which connects it to Madrid. The airport is
also close to the A-2. Please, note that most of the historic downtown
cannot be accessed by car.
